Timberwise is an
underwater timber
harvesting company.

At Timberwise, we want to change the way people think about how wood is harvested.

TIMBERWISE
AT A GLANCE

A GLOBAL SOLUTION FOR A
BROKEN FORESTRY INDUSTRY

PROJECTS
We have secured a $250,000,000 US timber recovery project with Itaipu Binacional – one of the world’s largest hydro-electric dams.

TEAM
We are a group of highly experienced industry professionals who have identified a readily available wood recovery solution.

TECHNOLOGY
Our specialized harvesting technology is the most efficient, safest and scalable solution in the world.

OPPORTUNITY
Timberwise offers an excellent investment opportunity as we address a global need.

Timberwise is an underwater timber harvesting company. Our focus is recovering old growth wood from flooded forests created when hydro-electric dams are built.

There are over 66,000 dams worldwide that we have targeted to sustainably harvest wood from. This wood is perfectly preserved and superior quality to land based timber. Currently we are working to recover, commercialize and market environmentally-friendly old-growth timber initially in Paraguay.

Higher Quality Overall
Greater quality and dense wood, no parasitic or physical damage. This is the world’s finest old growth timber.

Global Wood Demand
Global wood consumption is projected to grow by 54% by 2050.

A Ready Solution
Timberwise has the technology, processes and experience to recover old growth timber efficiently and profitably without harming the environment.

We are addressing a growing global need

1 ACRE

Every acre of drowned trees that lay in a hydroelectric reservoir, lake or river translates into an acre of forest that’s left standing.

$120+ BILLION

Buried in the water of reservoirs around the world are submerged trees that are estimated at USD $120,000,000,000

$450+ BILLION

The global market for industrial wood products including wood and paper is growing everyday.

Many years ago, loggers used to float felled trees over lakes and nearby rivers for transportation to mills for processing. Logs that were extra heavy would sink to the bottom, and the loggers did not take the time to recover them. It is estimated that 20 - 30% of harvested timber ended up under water.

Fast forward to today, these logs are not completely lost, as underwater logs are safe from wood-decaying fungi that require wood, moisture, air, and temperatures estimated around 24ºC – 32ºC (75ºF — 90ºF) . Underwater logs are also safe from stains. In fact, the water preserves the wood naturally.

Timberwise was borne from the idea that this old growth wood was indeed unique from today’s wood and were worth harvesting. As well, modern land-based logging methods are unsustainable and hard on the environment. Timberwise has invented technology, processes and equipment to sustainably harvest old growth timber from lakebeds, reservoirs and rivers efficiently and profitably without harming the environment.

Today, the global demand for exotic and hard-to-find wood is a $60 Billion US growth business. Timberwise is meeting this demand and harvesting old growth submerged timber from the very same lakes that the early loggers used while reducing the environmental footprint on the world.

Timberwise. Driving Change with Rediscovered Wood.

DRAWING UPON THE PAST FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Because the underwater logging process is essentially retrieving sunken wood that was already lost in previous logging and dam building, the logs are considered ‘rediscovered wood.’ It reduces deforestation. In addition, road building is eliminated as well as greenhouse emissions.

WHY

TIMBERWISE?

REDISCOVERING
SUBMERGED TIMBER

With deep foresight, planning and innovative technology, we are undertaking one of the world’s most ambitious forestry projects. We are disrupting the global logging industry by working deep below the waters to resurrect superb timbers perfectly preserved by low temperatures and oxygen content.

Paraguay has many species of hardwoods. More than 500 species of hardwoods have been identified, among which are the Urunday, Peterebi, Curupay, Lapacho (Brazilian Walnut) and many others. The woods of Paraquay have been used extensively for furniture, music instruments, boxes, and cabinetry. These types of wood have been submerged for centuries. This old-growth timber is nearly impossible to source anywhere else. Source

SUBMERGED OLD GROWTH – A HIGHER QUALITY OF WOOD

The wood-grain from old-growth trees is extremely dense, which increases durability and works well for flooring, cabinetry and furniture. As well, the submerged wood takes on hues of the natural elements around it. These mummified logs once grew under a canopy of conifers in low light and limited-nutrient conditions, they matured slower than today’s fast-growing land based varieties.

True old growth wood contains heartwood which only forms after at least 50 years of growth. Old growth wood is far superior to new growth wood. Comparatively, new growth wood reaches maturity in 10 to 20 years. The goal with new wood is to grow the wood as quickly as possible. For construction, you now need larger wood sizes to achieve the same level of structural soundness due to the lower density.

Older trees that grow naturally develop tighter growth rings which creates more robust lumber. The tighter growth rings allow the wood to have greater capacities. Also, old growth wood has natural rot-resistant properties and more firmness, meaning it doesn’t shrink and expand as much as new growth wood. Source

This is the world’s finest timber. Timber that master woodworkers dream of working with, harvested in an efficient and responsible manner.

Our process and technology is the most efficient, safe and scalable in the world.

VALUE

Our ability to source hard-to-find woods from freshwater lakes, reservoirs and rivers in both the southern and northern hemisphere. These include hard to source exotic woods for furniture and fine musical instruments.

TECHNOLOGY

As much as Timberwise is an underwater logging company, our innovative technology embraces cutting edge processes, equipment and automation to continually improve our technology platform.

GLOBAL EXPERTISE

Our Timberwise business strategy, expertise and collective focus is the platform to become the foremost global operator working in different countries with our trusted partners.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Above all, Timberwise stands up for the environment and is continually seeking ways to lessen our combined footprint on the earth while providing valuable wood products.

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY

A secure and promising investment opportunity with an emerging start-up that promises to disrupt the industry and provide a tangible ROI.

CURUPAY

Curupay is a strong, durable hardwood that is a superior choice for outdoor uses as it has a high resistance to decay and impregnation. The lustrous wood makes for strong, beautiful furniture.

URUNDAY

Large natural stands have become scarce. Urunday is used as a medicinal plant. Recent studies have shown potential as treatment of nerve-degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. The wood is very heavy, durable, and strong.

PETEREBI

A highly valuable workable wood. It is used for decorative veneers, furniture, accents, inlays, boat building and musical instruments. The colour is a dark tobacco brown to nearly black with irregular and impressive darker stripes.

LAPACHO (Brazilian Walnut)

Prized for its rich colour, Lapacho’s hardness is 3684. It dwarfs red oak’s 1290 rating, is over 170% harder than white oak, over 150% harder than hard maple. It is used for flooring, docks, railroad ties, furniture and moulding.

GAIACWOOD

A very solid and rustic wood. It is prized for its crude and purified essential oils. It is also  used for muscle and joint pain (rheumatism), breathing problems, skin disorders, and syphilis. It is also used for preventing gout.

GUAYACAN

Regarded as one of the heaviest and hardest woods in the world. Its durability in submerged or ground-contact applications is legendary—it has been used for propeller shaft bearings on ships, and its natural oils provide self-lubrication that gives the wood excellent wear resistance.
